Thank you all so much for the great comments! Much appreciated. The paper is Coquille Board. I order it from a place called Hyatts : http://www.hyatts.com/
It's a bit difficult to find, but they have it. I used Faber- Castell drawing pencils for this. I start with the harder ones (F or B) then use softer/darker ones, once I'm sure where the darkest darks will be. I build up slowly. It's not speedy, but gives a richer look, I think.
